MIDI Track Settings
To enable a track, check the Active box. Checking the Active box also has the effect of setting the note range for the current Patch (instrument), if available.
Select a MIDI Patch from the drop-down for each track. To reset the note range to the Patch's default, un-check then re-check the Active box. If Track 10 is used as the percussion track (the default), the Track number will P rather than 10. The number of the Patch appears in the status bar at the bottom of the form. For instance, the General MIDI Trumpet patch is number 56. This also corresponds to the SFX percussion bank when Track 10 is Percussion and the default percussion bank is used. The numbers in parentheses next to the percussion sets is the usable note range, corresponding to the Low/High of the regular instrument patches.
The Min Vel and Max Vel figures represent the minimum and
maximum Velocity (volume) for each track, and can range from 0 (silence) to
127.
If Min Vel is equal to Max Vel, no dynamics will be present in
the track, and the Velocity of each note will be set to the Min Vel
value..
If Max Vel is set to zero, each note will have a Velocity equal to the
Min Vel value.
If Min Vel and Max Vel differ, each note will have a Velocity dependent on the over-all brightness of the pixel scanned, within the range specified. Checking Boost Dynamics in the Configure menu will expand the dynamics, and Velocities may run well out of the set range.
Note: be sure to set the Min Vel value first when making changes.
The Pitch Map selection determines which RGB color will be used to generate the MIDI notes. Selecting one of the Avg items will use an average of the indicated color values. (R = Red, G = Green, B = Blue, the # represents that color which will not be used.)
Note Ties can range from 0 to 8.
Dur sets the default length of the notes for the track. This value can be randomized by setting a negative value. For instance: setting the value to -8 will cause notes ranging from 1 to 8 MIDI ticks in length.
Setting the Duration to 0 will do one of two things: use the durations set in the Rhythm Map, or, if no Rhythm Map is defined, use durations based on the color of the pixel being scanned, to the nearest "standard" duration value, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, or 32 MIDI ticks.
The labels above each column of settings can be clicked to set all the values below them to the same settings as those in Track 1.
The V , D, and R labels indicate there are Velocity, Duration, and Rhythm Maps set. See Velocity Map, Duration Map, and Rhythm Map for more information.
The P , M, and B labels indicate there are active Pan, Modulator and Bank settings. See Pan, Modulator, and Banks for more information.
